Our organisation

Cessnock City Council has a popularly elected Mayor, 12 dedicated Councillors and highly professional staff who are committed to delivering the best outcomes for our community.

Our Interim General Manager, Peter Chrystal, is supported by an Executive Leadership Team and over 400 employees.

Our organisation consists of four directorates:

• Planning & Environment
• Corporate & Community Services
• Works & Infrastructure

What does Council do?

As a Council, we proudly deliver a wide variety of services and facilities to the community. Some of our responsibilities include:

• waste management and recycling services
• maintenance of parks, gardens, playgrounds and sporting fields
• maintenance and construction of local roads, footpaths, cycle ways and bridges
• cultural services including libraries and the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre (CPAC)
• animal management, including pet microchipping(Show info)
• building and development control
• land use planning
• food and public health
• aquatic facilities
• economic development
• youth services
