Join our team as an Analyst – Performance and Reporting, where you’ll turn data into insights that drive smarter decisions and improve organisational performance. This is a permanent full-time role based in our Wellington Customhouse.
About the role | Kōrero mō te tūranga
The role of the Analyst Performance and Reporting is to work closely with the Product Manager Information and Data to ensure performance data and analysis information is available to Customs management and business units to ensure their information needs are comprehensively met to enable effective decision making, as well as meet internal and external performance reporting requirements.

To be successful in this role the following attributes are required:
Proficiency in SQL and Excel.
Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
Knowledge of statistical analysis and data modelling.
Familiarity with Cognos Reporting
Familiarity with Python or R for advanced analytics
Effective performance in a similar role, with experience in planning, performance analysis and reporting, including accountability reporting.
Excellent communication skills both verbally and written with the ability to communicate to complex and analytical data to wide ranging audiences at all levels.
Ability to build and maintain effective internal relationships as well as identify and establish required external relationships building strength and rapport in maintaining and sustaining those relationships.
Ability to organise own work and documentation in a methodical, efficient manner to ensure it is readily available and meets organisational standards.
Ability to achieve security clearance to a “Top Secret” level is required.
Strong problem solving and decision-making capability, including the ability to identify problems, manage or mitigate risks and implement innovative solutions that align with strategic direction.
A tertiary qualification (at least equivalent to Bachelors) in a relevant discipline is preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Data Analytics, BI tools) are desirable.

To join Customs in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident* and be able to obtain and maintain an Organisational Security clearance to Top Secret level.
(*) A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last ten years, (including ten years ago from the date of this application) and resides in New Zealand at time of application.

A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last ten years, (including ten years ago from the date of this application) and resides in New Zealand at time of application who has travelled out of New Zealand for short periods of time i.e. < 6 months in one of the following countries: Australia, United Kingdom, United States or Canada and can provide police certificates from those countries for the period of absence.
Because of the nature of Customs’ work you must have a clear Police record. Organisational security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs. You will also be required to pass a drug test.
