About the role

The City of Salisbury is seeking an experienced and community-focused Branch Operations Officer to join our Library Service within the Community Development Department.

Reporting to the Library Customer Service Coordinator, you will lead the day-to-day operations of an allocated library branch, ensuring high-quality customer experiences, effective team leadership and the delivery of innovative library services, programs and activities that support literacy, lifelong learning and community connection.  

This is a varied role that combines people leadership, branch operations, customer service, community engagement and facility oversight. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Council to activate community spaces and deliver services that respond to the needs of Salisbury's diverse community.

Your key responsibilities will include

• Lead the day-to-day operations of an allocated library branch.
• Supervise, coach and support branch staff to foster a constructive and high-performing team culture.
• Contribute to front-facing customer service, circulation and reference services.
• Develop, deliver and support engaging library programs, displays, activities and community initiatives.
• Support community learning, participation and capacity-building projects.
• Coordinate branch reporting, statistics, financial processes and cash handling.
• Coordinate the Justice of the Peace service where required.

You are an experienced library professional and people leader who thrives in a dynamic, community-focused environment. You enjoy building capable and engaged teams, delivering exceptional customer service and creating welcoming spaces that encourage learning, connection and participation.

You are adaptable, highly organised and comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with operational and customer-facing duties.

You will also have

• Qualifications in library and information management, or equivalent experience, that provide eligibility for professional membership with ALIA.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing staff capability.
• Strong customer service skills and experience managing challenging customer situations.
• Sound knowledge of library operations, systems and collection management.
• Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• The ability to be flexible and work collaboratively across multiple sites and teams.
• Experience in local government and community development principles (desirable)

Eligibility

A Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance are mandatory requirements of this role.

The successful applicant must be willing and able to work across City of Salisbury sites and work rostered hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
