We deliver 21 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 370,000 residents.

The Role

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is surrounded by the Georges, Cooks and Duck Rivers.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of planning, developing, and putting into action creative strategies to help Council manage flood risk in the community through the flood risk management framework.
You'll play a crucial role in shaping Councils priorities and approach to how we manage stormwater, floodplains, and integrated water cycles in CBCity. 
As a valued member of the City Plan and Transformation Unit, you'll work closely with diverse teams across Council and take the lead on special projects that involve building relationships and collaborating with external stakeholders. 

*This opportunity will be offered on a permanent full-time basis

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Developing and delivering key actions outlined in the Catchment and Waterways Strategic Plan.
  • Coordinating and project management of the development of Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Plans.
  • Coordinating the development of Stormwater, Waterways and Coastal Management Programs. 
  • Undertaking research, developing policies and providing advice and strategic input.
  • Providing strategic direction and advice in relation to various planning instruments. 
  • Providing specialist environmental advice to internal and external parties.
  • Liaising with Federal and State Government bodies regarding funding for floodplain, coastal and catchment management programs.
  • Undertaking research and guidance on Water Sensitive Urban Design principles for capital works and planning.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Planning or equivalent.
  • Experience in floodplain management, planning or environmental engineering.
  • Extensive experience in project management of complex projects or strategic analysis.
  • Experience in addressing issues associated with floodplain planning and stormwater asset maintenance/replacement.
  • Knowledge of Water Sensitive Urban Design and Integrated Water Cycle principles.
  • Understanding of the NSW Flood Risk Management Process and Flood Prone Land Policy. 
  • Understanding of the interaction between catchment management and strategic/ land use planning.
  • Experience with tender/ technical brief preparation, budgeting, tender evaluation, procurement and contract management. 
  • Experience with financial control and budget preparation, including grant applications.
  • Understanding of Coastal Management Programs (not essential but highly advantageous).

The salary range for this opportunity commences at $101,423 (Grade H, Step 1) + 11.5 % super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
