Cemetery Caretaker (Fixed Term) (Chinchilla)

About the Opportunity

Operating from within the Parks & Recreation Department and predominantly working from Tanderra Cemetery Chinchilla, you will undertake a range of duties specifically related to cemetery interment tasks, in addition to a range of horticultural duties including the maintenance of Council’s cemeteries, parks and assets.

This position is full time, fixed term until June 2025.

You will be:

• Identifying and accurately checking the location of a grave/interment site, and ensuring all associated documentation is completed and provided within agreed timeframes.
• Preparing a grave site for a burial (inclusive of backfilling) ensuring external environmental conditions are assessed and the installation of appropriate shoring for individual graves is in place;
• Working directly with Funeral Directors to set up the grave site utilising site specific equipment such as lowering devices;
• Undertaking pallbearer duties as required.
• Maintaining the grounds of Myall Remembrance Park in a high standard.
• Advising the visiting public on locations of graves/memorials, funerals and cemetery amenities;
• Delivering clean and attractive Cemeteries for the community whilst operating a range of horticultural plant and equipment;

About yourself

A person in this position will need to hold a relevant Certificate III in Horticulture, OR be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience. It is also highly desirable for the successful candidate to have:

• Current Queensland C Class Licence. “MR” licence
• Current Backhoe ticket preferred or a willingness to obtain.
• Construction Induction White Card (Essential)

Mandatory Vaccinations (or a valid and verifiable contraindication) are to be evidenced when requested by Council.

This role is full time, working 38 hours per week with a fortnightly RDO.
