Your new career

The Civil Operations Team at Surf Coast Shire Council operates from two depots, Torquay and Winchelsea, to provide maintenance services for all of the council's civil-type assets.

The team maintains sealed and unsealed roads, footpaths, signage, and both urban and rural drainage systems. Our team comprises of a diverse range of experience levels and backgrounds and operates a wide range of plant to deliver both construction and maintenance tasks.

In this role, you will assume the responsibilities of a general Civil Maintenance Officer and will be involved in a broad spectrum of maintenance tasks across the coastal and hinterland areas of the Surf Coast Shire Council.

 

What you will bring to the role

We are looking for someone with experience in the maintenance and construction of civil infrastructure, and preferably someone with experience working in a local government environment.

To be successful in this role you will:

  •  be able to read basic construction plans,
  •  be familiar in working with modern WH&S systems
  •  be competent in aspects of civil works (such as achieving material compaction, taking measurements, following procedures and operating equipment). 

 

Key selection criteria
Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements

  • Holder of a current Medium Rigid (MR) or higher driver’s licence with relevant endorsements to operate plant as assigned.
  • Several years’ experience in civil works.
  • Skills and knowledge gained through on-the-job training relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of municipal assets.
  • Experience in a Local Government environment.
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
    A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
