ABOUT THE ROLE

The Council Services Manager – Alpurrurulam leads and manages a team of community and program staff to deliver all Council services in the area, ensuring well-presented, well-maintained, and healthy communities. The role provides leadership, management, and supervision of daily community programs and municipal services, including agency and contracted services. The Council Services Manager - Alpurrurulam also undertakes community engagement, acting as Secretariat for the Local Authority and liaising with community stakeholders.

Community & Location Information

This position is located on the community of Alpurrurulam. As the position holder you will be required to live and work in the community of Alpurrurulam. A requirement of this position is that the position holder is competent to travel in remote locations, often dirt roads, within the Barkly Regional Council area. Alpurrurulam is a liquor-restricted community. Alcohol must not be brought into the community or consumed, including within staff or visitor accommodation. The nearest major service town is Mount Isa, approximately 3 hours drive from Alpurrurulam. Road access to the community may be restricted or unavailable during the wet season (typically December – January), and the community may be cut off for extended periods following heavy rainfall.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven facilitation, mediation, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all staff levels in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing diverse teams, with the ability to mentor, develop, support, and motivate staff in a dynamic and evolving work environment.
  • Sound understanding of Human Resource (HR) Management principles and workplace policies.
  • Proven ability to implement Municipal Services and community programs within culturally diverse settings.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Local Government legislation, regulations, and relevant policies.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.
  • National Criminal History Check.
  • Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card – Northern Territory).
  • CPCWHS1001 Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card).
  • Driver’s Licence.
  • Diploma level qualification and/or trade qualification, and/or equivalent experience in a related field.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have strong leadership and people management skills, ideally in a remote or regional setting.
  • You have excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills.
  • You are willing and have the ability to live and work in Alpurrurulam, a remote community in the Northern Territory.

THE FINER DETAILS

  • Full-Time Permanent position paying Above Award Level of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2024.
  • Annual Salary of $123,460.48 ($4,748.48 gross per fortnight).
  • 12% Superannuation.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Barkly Regional Council requires that all applicants have a National Criminal History Check. You will be required to provide a recent National Criminal History Check prior to any offer of employment.
