About the role

The City is seeking an experienced Engineering Design Officer to provide specialist civil design expertise and support delivery of the City’s Annual Capital Works Program.

Reporting to the Coordinator Engineering Design, the position is responsible for preparing concept and detailed civil designs, technical documentation and cost estimates to support funding, procurement and construction. The role works across road, drainage and other civil infrastructure projects and liaises with internal teams, contractors, consultants, utility providers, Main Roads Western Australia and the community to deliver safe, practical and cost-effective infrastructure outcomes.

Duties: Key responsibilities include;

· Prepare concept and detailed civil infrastructure designs, including roads and drainage, using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

· Prepare complete design documentation and detailed cost estimates suitable for funding, procurement and construction.

· Manage traffic counters and analyze traffic data to support investigation and design development.

· Arrange and oversee survey activities and incorporate accurate topographical information into engineering designs.

· Liaise with community members, utility providers, consultants, contractors, Main Roads Western Australia and other government agencies to resolve design issues and minimize project risks.

· Provide technical design support during construction and respond to design-related enquiries.

· Apply statutory requirements, industry standards and City policies to ensure designs are compliant and fit for purpose.

· Support the review, development and continuous improvement of the City’s engineering technical standards, drawing formats and design documentation.

About You: To be considered, you'll need;

· Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or substantial equivalent professional experience in a similar technical capacity.

· Demonstrated technical proficiency in civil infrastructure design, particularly road infrastructure, drainage systems and detailed cost estimating.

· Advanced skills in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, together with a high level of competency in Microsoft Office for project documentation and data management.

· Proven ability to manage competing workloads and priorities and deliver high-quality project outcomes within required timeframes.

· Sound knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant statutory requirements, industry standards/guidelines and Council policies.

· Functional understanding of surveying methodologies and survey equipment to support engineering design and implementation.

· Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with community members, utility providers, consultants and government agencies, including Main Roads Western Australia.

· Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise and professional technical reports and design documentation.

· Current satisfactory National Police Clearance.

· Current valid Western Australian "C" or "CA" Class Driver’s License.
