The role

Build your career in urban planning and design while helping shape one of Sydney’s most dynamic and evolving areas!

As a Graduate Urban Planner/Urban Designer, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a diverse range of strategic planning, urban design and city-shaping projects. Working across four specialist teams, you’ll contribute to planning proposals, city-wide policy, precinct master planning, heritage, infrastructure and urban design initiatives.

You’ll work with a variety of stakeholders, bring fresh and innovative ideas to real projects and gain valuable exposure to the planning processes that are shaping the future of Canterbury-Bankstown.

This is a two-year Temporary Full-Time opportunity, commencing in February 2027, designed to provide broad exposure, practical experience and a strong foundation for your career in urban planning and design.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Support the delivery of planning policy, place-based planning and urban design projects.

  • Work across planning and urban design teams to help embed high-quality design outcomes into planning projects.

  • Collaborate across Council to achieve best-practice planning and design outcomes.

  • Assist with the preparation of planning advice, reports and submissions.

  • Contribute to the review and development of Council’s city-wide planning policies.

You will have

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Urban Design, Urbanism, Architecture or other related degree completed within 24 months prior to February 2027 (Degree should be recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia).

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning and local government legislation, and an ability to interpret the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the preparation of presentation material

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $74,692 (Grade D, Step 1) + 12% super.
