About the opportunity

Blacktown City is experiencing rapid growth and development. This is an exciting role in our Greenspace Services Section, Council's biggest business unit, to help deliver new open space infrastructure to our community.

We are seeking a highly motivated, appropriately qualified and skilled individual to work in a small team on a permanent full-time basis. You will be working with external and internal stakeholders to ensure open space infrastructure projects are delivered in accordance with the Council’s policies and requirements.

Some exciting duties include assessing development applications for tree and landscape matters and undertaking maintenance audits of new open space areas under the care and control of external stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field such as Landscape Architecture or Design and/or Horticulture and/or extensive experience
  • Qualifications in Arboriculture (AQF Level 5)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the recreation, park and open space industry
  • Computer Literate (Microsoft applications)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills with a focus on commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment and also autonomously
  • Availability to work flexible working hours
  • Current class ‘C’ driver’s licence
  • SafeWork approved WHS General Induction for Construction Work in NSW.

Desirable:

  • Experience in project management of park and open space works
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations
  • Experience working in local government
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of reviewing Development application submissions related to the applicable field of expertise
  • Good negotiating skills.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,796.10 per week
  • 35-hour working week
  • Leaseback vehicle
