We are seeking applications for Casual Compliance Officers to join the Environment and Health Services Team. This casual role will mainly involve weekend, public holiday and Council closure work, with some after-hours response during the week for priority animal management matters.

Council intends to establish a pool of Casual Compliance Officers so rostered weekend work can be shared, with the aim of each officer being rostered approximately one weekend per month.

Some of the key tasks to be undertaken in this position will be:

  • Undertake after-hours response during the week, on weekends and on public holidays for priority animal management matters such as dog attacks and stock on roads.
  • Collect animals surrendered to Council between the hours 6am to 7pm including weekends and public holidays. (Subject to change following trial closure of drop off cages).
  • Assist with managing the operation of Council’s Animal Pound including checking and cleaning the pound once a day on weekends and public holidays when an animal is kept at the pound on these days.
  • Undertake occasional other duties such as patrols on weekends to assist with ongoing issues.
  • Compile notes on job attendance and provide to the Compliance Supervisor.

For this role we are especially interested in hearing from individuals with:

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic experience in handling animals including dogs and cats.
  • Sound customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively in high-conflict situations.
  • Basic understanding, or the ability to acquire an understanding of relevant laws relating to animal management.
  • Possession of a current Queensland “C” class driver’s licence.

The hourly rate is in accordance with the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award - Level 3 $43.33 inclusive of the applicable casual loading.
