The Role:

The Civil Maintenance is responsible for leading the delivery of efficient and high-quality civil maintenance services, ensuring all work complies with established standards. The role involves the safe and effective operation of plant and equipment used in maintenance activities. Key responsibilities include scheduling and allocating resources, managing team performance, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with Council policies and procedures. Strong leadership, planning, and operational skills are essential to uphold service quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibility

  • General civil maintenance duties including but not limited to drainage maintenance, road maintenance, verge maintenance, and other general activities to maintain civil assets to required standards.
  • Providing effective and efficient maintenance services that meet standards to lead the Civil Maintenance Team
  • Maintain equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition in accordance with recommended operating practices.
  • Utilisation of machinery and equipment competently, safely and to standards including backhoe, excavator, skid steer and crane truck.
  • Assist the coordinator in creating, implementing, monitoring and reporting on work schedules/programs.
  • Erection of temporary signage in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Management Australian Standards.
  • Assist in the coordination of staff across service areas to meet work load demands and service level standards.
  • Assisting in the coaching and training of staff, including apprentices, trainees, and casuals, to develop work skills and increase efficiency.

Skill & Competencies:

  • Certificate 3 - Civil Construction
  • Current MR Driver's License or higher.
  • Work zone traffic management certificate.
  • Plant Operation Competencies - Crane Truck, Backhoe, Excavator, Skid Steer.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Skid Steer, Roller, Backhoe and Excavator to perform civil maintenance works
  • Demonstrated ability to organise, coordinate, influence and motivate staff.
  • Frontline Management Cert 4 is desirable
