Our Financial Strategy unit is responsible for ensuring professional stewardship over the City’s finances. The unit achieves this by delivering long term financial budgeting, procurement services, revenue collection and financial reporting. The unit strives to improve systems that support service delivery and capital management, ensuring the long term financial sustainability of the organisation.

The Role 

As our Principal Accounting Officer, you will provide advice to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on matters of strategic finance and lead the unit in the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services that are efficient, innovative and responsive to the community.

Reporting to our Director Corporate Performance, you will lead and enable:

  •  
    • Management of an annual operating budget of approximately $170m and a capital program of $75m
    • Financial reporting processes
    • Procurement services
    • Setting and collection of rates and charges

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have qualifications in finance or accounting, substantial  experience in the application of contemporary accounting and financial management principles and practices, and experience in developing strategic long term financial plans in a complex organisational setting.

You will have experience working in government or regulated environments, including high level knowledge of current trends, issues and legislation in relation to finance and accounting matters relevant to Local Government. In addition, you will have extensive leadership experience, strong communication, influencing and critical thinking problem solving skills, with the ability to develop positive relationships within a political environment.

Membership of a professional accounting association (CA or CPA), a satisfactory Police Records Check and employee Working with Children’s Check is required for this position.
