The Location 
The MidCoast is a large and diverse region on the mid/North Coast of NSW which comprises of 195 towns, villages and localities, stretched along their vast and stunning coastline (192km). The area ranges from beaches to mountains over an area of 10,000 km2 and is home to around 94,000 residents. The main population centres include: Taree, Forster-Tuncurry, Hawks Nest, Gloucester, Harrington and Old Bar. 

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, this role will lead the Organisational Strategy and People Department. Responsible for providing leadership, direction and management to the team, you will ensure the achievement of outcomes in line with organisational strategies, objectives, vision and values. The role will oversee the development and application of the organisation’s strategic plan, monitor performance metrics, and foster a culture of continuous improvement while effectively leading the team’s coordinators.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead long-range strategic planning that promotes people productivity, organisational efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Implement workforce planning tools and methodologies to support strategic decision- making.
  • Identify and promote emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in workforce development.
  • Collaborate with executives and senior leaders to better understand, analyse, and support the needs of the business.
  • Actively participate as a member of Council’s Leadership Group.
  • Manage the annual Department Budget effectively with the perspective of seeking greater program impact.
  • Provide counsel, advice, and guidance to leaders at all levels through key organisational and people decisions including leadership placement, organisational design, legislative and statutory requirements and investigations/disciplinary actions.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership for the Integrated Planning and Reporting resources so they can proactively and strategically develop the required strategies and plans required under the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework, ensuring community is at the centre of design and decisions undertaken by Council.

To be successful, you will possess significant strategic HR experience with proven success as a leader in developing teams and driving transformation and change in a complex environment.

The successful candidate will possess tertiary qualifications with experience in similar positions within large organisations.
