Principal Urban Planner

  • Salary: $121,873 to $129,707 per annum

This newly created position is part of our Urban Design and Policy team, responsible for leading strategic urban planning efforts within the City of Joondalup. You will take the reins on the review of the City’s Local Planning Strategy, which is entering an exciting community engagement phase seeking input from the community on where density shoud be located. In addition, you will be responsible for leading the upcoming review of the Joondalup Activity Centre Plan and investigating the need for precinct structure plans across a number of activity centres within the City. You will also be involved in a range of exciting strategic urban planning projects including preparation and review of local planning policies, scheme amendments and implementing actions from our local planning strategy. 

You must be able to work in a busy environment, capable of leading multiple projects and have the ability to balance competing priorities.

Your covering letter will need to address the following key criteria:

  • Extensive experience in strategic land use planning in Western Australia, including the delivery of strategic land use planning projects within a local or state government environment.
  • Highly developed project management skills within a strategic land use planning context.
  • Extensive experience in negotiating, facilitating and/or delivering strategic land use planning outcomes.
  • Highly developed analytical, research and report writing skills.
