About the Department

The People and Safety Department at Council plays an integral role in delivering on the outcomes of Council’s Corporate Plan and strategies, shaping and supporting a culture and work environment which puts people, safety and wellbeing at the centre of organisational design, function and decision making.

The department sits within the Executive Services Directorate and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

The team provides innovative, connected and forward-thinking people and safety functions to partner effectively with Council’s leadership, employees and other stakeholders to drive engagement, performance and accountability.

The People and Safety structure comprises the following teams, totalling some 12 employees, located throughout the Southern Downs and granite Belt Region.

  • People and Culture
  • Safety and Wellbeing
  • Organisational Development

 

Your Opportunity

The Safety and Wellbeing Trainee will be provided with onsite training and mentoring while completing a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. This is an excellent opportunity to join Local Government within the Southern Downs while contributing to the effect and efficient operations within the Safety and Wellbeing space.

 

Term:                         Temporary Full-time up to 12 months (for the term of the traineeship)

Hours of Work:         72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight

Pay Level:                 The pay level for this position is dependent on the age and prior education of the successful candidate.

Indicative salary levels are between $1,128.00 to $2,122 per fortnight, plus superannuation and leave loading.

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience. 

Employment Base:  Warwick, Queensland

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):  

  • Acquire practical, on the job skills and experience and actively participate in theoretical training, in accordance with the training plan, to successfully complete the competencies required to obtain a Certificate IV qualification in Work Health and Safety;
  • Successfully carry out other duties as required that are reasonably within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training, as directed by the Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator.
  • Cooperatively work in a team environment and provide administrative support to the safety team;

 

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role
  • A white construction card or the ability to obtain one is a mandatory requirement for this role
  • Ability to commit to the full traineeship program and to proactively and competently complete course work and assessment required to complete the Certificate qualification within specified timeframes.
  • Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with co-workers, supervisors, staff from across Council and external customers
  • Ability to accurately follow directions and concentrate on tasks within an office environment
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
