Our City Services division sustainably plans, builds, presents, and enhances our built and green infrastructure to ensure our community values the services we provide.

 

Within this, our Horticultural Services department plays a vital role in presenting and enhancing the green spaces that connect people, foster play, and support wellbeing.

 

About the Position

 

Through creation of this new position, we’re seeking an inspiring leader who will become our Senior City Greening Officer and lead our tree planting function and directly influence and drive the delivery of impactful greening projects across Monash.

This role is central to managing and enhancing our urban forest through strategic planning and leadership, sound contract management, and delivery of both operational and capital works tree planting and establishment programs.

You will contribute to the review, development, and implementation of Council strategies, ensuring our approach remains innovative, effective, and aligned with our long-term goals. Your work will help shape the future of our city’s green spaces and contribute to maximising greening of the public realm as we strive to realise our tree canopy target of 30% by 2040.

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • Passionate about urban forestry, arboriculture, and urban horticulture with a deep understanding of good industry practices.

  • A proven leader who inspires teams and embraces a growth mindset

  • Experienced in delivering tree planting programs in an urban environment

  • Familiarity with data management and digital platforms that enable informed decision making.

  • Skilled in developing and administering contracts to deliver high-impact greening projects.

  • Customer-focused, driven to exceed expectations and deliver exceptional outcomes.

 

Requirements

 

  • A minimum of Diploma in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, or related qualification with extensive and diverse knowledge and experience in managing large tree populations in a public setting

  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role

  • Experience in continuous improvement, team building and development of technical service levels

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic document development and operational program development which includes the management of green infrastructure in the public realm

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and service delivery

  • Satisfactory National Police Check

  • Current Working with Children Check

  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
