Salary: $108,609.01 to $119,007.71 pa + 11.5% super (+Council Leaseback Vehicle)

ABOUT THE ROLE

An opportunity has arisen within Council’s Floodplain and Water Management team for a Senior Floodplain Engineer.

This position is responsible for undertaking assessment of development applications (DA) and planning proposals on flood prone lands and provide appropriate technical advice to ensure occupation and development on flood prone lands complies with Council’s Flood Policy and the NSW Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy. Additionally, the role is responsible for undertaking flood study, floodplain risk management study and floodplain risk management plan, investigation, planning and development of designs for stormwater infrastructure and flood mitigation projects.

The position will contribute to the development of long-term strategic policies and programs associated with floodplain and stormwater management in accordance with Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Delivery and Operational Plans.

The role requires preparing expert evidence and representing Council at the Land and Environment Court regarding development of flood prone lands to ensure community interests are preserved.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant will have:

  • Qualifications in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Class C Drivers License
  • Extensive experience in the assessment of development applications (DA), planning proposals, major residential and commercial developments from stormwater and floodplain risk management perspective.
  • Extensive experience in undertaking and management of flood study, floodplain risk management study and risk management plan for mainstream flooding and overland flow paths within budget, time, and quality standards.
  • Proven experience in hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality models with respect to latest Australian standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in investigation, analysis and selection of flood mitigation and drainage treatment options, assessment and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of professional/technical staff, consultants and contractors, experience in working with managers, staff and stakeholders to resolve high priority, and often sensitive and complex matters.
  • Highly developed time management skills to achieve proficiency and effectiveness in managing conflicting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Communication and presentation of material and information to a broad range of stakeholders including community groups, elected representatives, and senior management.
