About the role

The role of Senior Strategic Environmental Planner is responsible for developing complex environmental strategies, policies and programs to inform sustainable urban development and infrastructure planning that improves the performance of Council’s built and natural environment and provides ecological advice into relevant projects and application. The position leads internal and external engagement to develop, implement, monitor and report upon the Council’s and Community vision for the future. This position also involves the alignment of strategic and operational functions within Council.

The position of Senior Strategic Environmental Planner is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community. 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science/ Natural Resources Management/ Ecology or related field OR demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role combined with ongoing professional development.
  • Accreditation in the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method.
  • Current Class Drivers License. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas and concepts to a variety of audiences and stakeholders, including the community, colleagues, management, external agencies and technical experts.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing complex environmental strategies, land use planning studies, environmental management plans and providing technical environmental and sustainability advice into urban planning strategies and complex development plans.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of flora, fauna and ecological communities in the region, and relevant environmental state and federal legislation.
  • Strong decision-making, negotiation and project management skills and the practical ability to manage and deliver projects and/or programs.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro and ESRI Web Apps.

Other important information

  • The commencing salary for this position is up to $103,563. Central Coast Council also provides progression opportunities for employees to progress up to the maximum salary of $119,987 on completion of assessment of skills and performance 11.5% superannuation plus a leaseback vehicle. 
  • We have a permanent full-time role available 
  • This role will be able to access a 9 day fortnight
  • We are able to offer hybrid and flexible working conditions for this role 
  • This role is located at the Wyong Administration Building
