We are excited to offer a Part Time - Fixed term position 

Cook Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Sports and Recreation Officer to help reinvigorate and grow sport and recreation opportunities in Coen. — This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the community by rebuilding participation, reconnecting with local residents and helping create activities that people genuinely want to be part of. 

What you’ll be doing:

As the Sports and Recreation Officer, you’ll deliver 

• engaging after-school, adult and school holiday programs.
• Encouraging participation in sport, physical activity and wellbeing initiatives.
• Building positive relationships with children, families, adults, schools and community groups.
• Listening to the community and identifying activities that reflect local interests and needs.
• Creating a welcoming, inclusive and culturally respectful environment for everyone.
• Setting up, packing down and maintaining sporting equipment and facilities.
• Completing routine safety checks and reporting hazards or maintenance issues.
• Keeping attendance records and providing feedback on program successes and opportunities for improvement.
• Working with Council staff and community partners to deliver successful programs.
• Ensuring activities meet Council’s safety, risk management and funding requirements.

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

• Previous experience delivering community-based recreational programs.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
• Current Blue Card, or ability to obtain one prior to commencing (no card, no start laws apply).
• Friendly, energetic and genuinely passionate about community recreation.
• Confident engaging with people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.
• Able to work independently, use initiative and follow established procedures.
• A great communicator who can build strong relationships with community members and groups.
• Comfortable leading activities and motivating participants.
• Safety-focused, reliable and organised.
• Physically capable of setting up, moving and managing sporting equipment.
• Available to work afternoons, evenings and/or weekends when programs require it.
