THE POSITION:

Fairfield City Council employs approximately 1,000 staff, with an operating expenditure budget of $190M and total net assets of approximately $2.5B.

Council is looking for a highly experienced Principal Auditor to deliver Council’s internal audit function including undertaking internal audit engagements, ensuring effective internal controls are in place and complied with.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Auditing/Accounting/Economics/Management or other relevant fields
  • Experience in leading internal audit ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, policies and best practice
  • Perform independent audit fieldwork providing insights on risk management, governance and operational efficiencies
  • Knowledge of internal audit, financial systems and risk management requirements in local government
  • Ability to engage, influence and work collaboratively with management including providing independent advice to the General Manager, management and staff across Council
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to compile clear, comprehensive, and professional audit reports to management and Council’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
  • Effective organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure to achieve objectives and manage competing priorities
  • High attention to detail, analyses and interpret the effectiveness and efficiency of organisational processes and systems across a diverse range of Council activities
  • Ability to conduct investigations and solve problems
  • Ability to use of computerised business systems including accounting packages and data interrogation tools

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent position, 70 hours per fortnight
  • This position is a Grade 8, salary range is $111,164 p.a. with progression to $119,713p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $130,215p.a.
