About the role
Clarence Valley Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Team Leader Aquatics to support the day-to-day operations of the Clarence Regional Aquatic Centre and the Yamba Community Pool. This is an exciting fixed-term opportunity through to 31 March 2028 for an aquatic professional who enjoys leading people, maintaining high safety standards and delivering exceptional customer service.
Reporting to the Coordinator Aquatics, you will oversee the daily operations of both facilities, providing leadership and support to lifeguards, supervisors, swim instructors and other aquatic staff. You will play a key role in maintaining water quality, coordinating rosters, supervising pool operations, ensuring compliance with legislative and safety requirements, and assisting with the delivery of aquatic programs and special events.
To be successful, you will have demonstrated experience supervising staff in an aquatic environment, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a strong understanding of pool safety, water quality management and the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations. Current Pool Lifeguard, First Aid/CPR and Working with Children certifications are essential, along with a commitment to providing safe, welcoming and enjoyable aquatic facilities for our community.

Q1. Describe your experience supervising staff in an aquatic facility. Include the size of the team you have led, the types of facilities you have worked in, and your responsibilities for the day-to-day operation of the centre.
Q2. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for staff and patrons. Describe your experience managing safety, responding to incidents and providing high-quality customer service in a busy aquatic environment following the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation (GSPO).
Q3. What different approaches have you used in talking with different people? How did you know you were getting your point across?
Q4. Tell us about a time you gave performance feedback. Please outline the steps you took to set performance standards and monitor their progress

This position is located at Council's Clarence Regional Aquatic Centre and Yamba Community Pool, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.
