Your new career

Council’s Communications and Community Engagement Team lead the development and implementation of best practice communications and community engagement processes, policies, and strategies.

As the Team Leader Communications, you will lead a team of skilled Communications Advisors in the development and execution of communications plans and campaigns to support key Council projects and initiatives.  You will provide quality communications advice to support leaders, internal stakeholders, partners, and project owners.

What you will bring to the role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated person who can use exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to lead the team in the delivery of effective communications strategies.  

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Exceptional communications skills, including experience in managing communications workflow.
  • Relevant leadership experience.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. public relations, marketing, communications), with several years of subsequent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to strengthen a team.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering a range of communications practices that are high quality and consistent.
  • Ability to consistently leave a positive impression when working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide frank and fearless advice to senior management and Councillors.
  • Qualification Check
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
    A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Experience in local government.
  • Content management and multimedia production skills.
