Who we are:

The Information and Digital Technology Unit within the Northern Beaches Council is responsible for the delivery of services that support the operational activities of the Council, enable delivery of services to the community by the various business units and allow direct access to information and services by the community.

Northern Beaches Council is committed to safeguarding children and young people. Council acknowledges that protecting the safety of children and young people is a whole of community responsibility and is everyone’s business.

Working with us:

Northern Beaches Council provides a comprehensive range of benefits focused on our employees’ lifestyle, health and wellbeing, recognition and career development.  In this role you’ll enjoy -

  • A culture of supporting continuous professional development

  • Employee wellness program and a range of lifestyle benefits

  • Values based culture and a teams oriented working environment

Our opportunity:

As the IT Network Team Leader, you'll lead a small, specialist team of three responsible for Council's enterprise and cloud networks. These networks connect our staff, sites and services across the Northern Beaches. Reporting to the Manager IDT Operations, your key focus areas will include:

  • Leading a skilled network team. You'll set priorities, coach and develop your team, and build a collaborative, customer-focused culture that delivers reliable, secure and high-performing network services.

  • Improving how we deliver. You'll monitor and report on network performance and operational metrics. You'll also keep improving network standards, documentation and ITIL-aligned service management practices.

  • Protecting and strengthening the network. You'll find and fix network and cyber security risks in line with industry best practice. You'll also build, test and maintain network resilience and disaster recovery capability.

  • Managing vendors and contracts. You'll manage network vendors, service providers and agreements, and look after the team's budget, so that we get strong service performance and value for money.

  • Being the technical go-to. You'll provide expert leadership and act as the escalation point for complex network incidents and requests, working with the Service Desk, Service Delivery and Infrastructure teams to resolve issues quickly.

About you:

We're looking for a proactive and customer-centric network leader who enjoys leading people as much as solving complex technical problems. You stay a step ahead of risks and outages, and you keep your team focused on what matters most to the business and our community.
You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and you're confident working with vendors and service providers to get the right outcomes. You value good documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience leading an IT network team in a large or complex organisation

  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise networking and security technologies. Exposure to platforms like ours (Cisco switching, VeloCloud SD-WAN, FortiGate and Palo Alto firewalls, Zscaler, and Azure networking and hybrid connectivity), or their equivalents, will set you up for success.

  • Experience managing technical environments where network, server, cloud and security systems are closely connected

  • A solid grasp of ITIL-aligned service management, with mandatory ITIL 4 certification (network certifications such as CCNP are highly regarded)

  • Experience managing vendors and contracts, and working with budgets
