Who we are:

The City of Salisbury is a local government entity and encompasses an area of 158km2. We are a customer focused organisation, providing essential services to residents and visitors, in a dynamic and flexible working environment. 

Council’s Work Health and Safety team deliver high quality services in relation to health and safety, workers compensation and wellbeing programs, engaging with both field-based and administration employees to build safety capability and wellbeing across the organisation.

The role:

Lead the Work, Health and Safety team to ensure high quality services in relation to workplace health and safety, workers compensation and return to work and income protection insurance.

Duties:

  • Provide specialist advice and support for leaders and the People and Performance team members to coordinate the management and return to work of staff affected by non-work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Develop and deliver effective workplace safety systems to build safety capability, ensuring safe systems of work and ensure compliance within statutory requirements. 
  • Lead the WHS team to ensure implementation of workplace health and safety, workers compensation, return to work, income protection and journey insurance programs. 
  • Monitor internal incident reports and incoming correspondence from Safework SA and Office of the Technical Regulator.
  • Prepare for and facilitate the completion of LGRS Risk Evaluation Audits and LGAWCS Procedure Validation Audits.

Specialist Skills & experience:

  • Proven success in leading and developing a multi-function professional team to deliver all aspects Work, Health and safety along with all return to work requirements. Working knowledge of WHS and Return to Work legislation and WHS Performance Standards for self-insurers (PSSI)
  • Previous experience in a similar leadership role in a medium to large organisation involved in business area change, preferably in self-insured environment 
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field
