An exciting opportunity has become available at Oberon Council for a highly motivated and proactive Works Manager.

The Works Manager leads, manages and oversees the development and delivery of programs in relation to Oberon Council’s infrastructure services including transportation (roads, bridges, pathways, public parking), stormwater, fleet and depot, gravel pits, as well as open spaces and recreation facilities (incl. sporting fields, playgrounds and public toilets).

You will be adept in leadership and technical expertise, build teams that are resilient and strong and be results driven. This role has 5 direct reports and 30-35 in-direct reports and is also responsible for managing contractors and any other workers on relevant Council controlled sites.

The Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and extensive relevant work experience, including in Local Government
  • Able to lead, manage and develop a large group of specialist staff
  • Commitment to public safety, Work Health and Safety and due consideration of risk when making decisions
  • Able to prioritise multiple tasks and projects, including appropriate levels of delegation to and supervision of staff, while demonstrating proactive approaches and resourceful problem-solving capabilities
  • Highly developed knowledge of maintenance and construction principles, practices and industry standards relating to municipal works
  • Experience in procurement, tendering and contract administration
  • High level computer literacy in the use of the MS suite of applications
  • Able to attend out-of-hours events as required, such as Council or Committee meetings
  • Current class C driver licence
  • Construction Induction White Card.

The Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in preparing and adhering to budgets
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Knowledge of relevant Legislation/Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice/Best Practice Management and Standards as well as understanding of their relevance in relation to the role
  • Able to participate in out-of-hours on-call roster

 Camera Surveillance and GPS Tracking

Camera surveillance has been installed in and on Council owned buildings and in some public spaces within the Council area. GPS tracking has been, or may be, installed in Council owned plant. Camera surveillance and GPS tracking is continuous and ongoing.

WHATS ON OFFER

  • Salary up to $135,000 per year
  • 11.5% Super
  • Civil Liability Allowance
  • 35 hrs/week
  • Monday to Friday – 9-day fortnight with a rostered day off on an agreed day
  • Working Hours are 8:15am to 4:33pm with a 30-minute unpaid meal break
  • Private Leaseback of a Council owned vehicle
  • Mobile phone with private use provisions or mobile phone allowance for use of personal phone for business purposes
  • Laptop
  • Corporate Clothing allowance as per Council policy.
