Te Tūranga | About the role

Help protect Tauranga's environment by making sure trade waste discharges are safe and compliant. As our Trade Waste Specialist in the City Waters division, you'll visit and monitor businesses that send trade waste to the wastewater network, act quickly on non‑compliance, and support customers to improve how they use water and manage discharges. You'll also help implement our online licensing process and keep the data behind charging accurate and up to date.

What you'll be doing;

• Inspect and monitor premises that discharge trade waste; follow up promptly when Trade Waste conditions aren't met.
• Investigate illegal or inappropriate discharges and manage enforcement of the Trade Waste Bylaw.
• Encourage and advise customers on better environmental solutions for water use and discharge quality.
• Process building consent/PIM applications and run annual audits and discharge testing.
• Keep trade waste licences current when a site's use changes.
• Implement online processes for trade waste applications and support customers through them.
• Coordinate and capture discharge data so charges are calculated accurately.
• Lead education and stakeholder conversations around trade waste and respond to incidents when they occur.

Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed

• Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience showing scientific specialisation.
• 5+ years' wastewater (trade waste) industry experience, including knowledge of wastewater infrastructure works, functions and operation.
• Extensive knowledge of characteristics and effects of waste, pollutants and hazardous wastes
• Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety requirements
