 Waste Sustainability and Education Officer

  • Salary: $92,785 – $100,038 per annum
  • Plus up to 14.5% superannuation (conditions apply) 
  • Permanent full time position

The City seeks a passionate, highly organised waste management professional to design and lead innovative community-focused sustainability education programs. As part of a small team of experts, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as staff, schools, businesses, and community groups to promote sustainable waste practices and environmental responsibility.

To succeed, you’ll bring a strategic mindset, a proven track record of driving awareness and behaviour change, and experience creating impactful programs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for engaging diverse audiences, building partnerships, and motivating action. You will also use data-driven insights to evaluate and refine initiatives, ensuring tangible outcomes and long-term community impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the main point of contact for all waste education-related enquiries.
  • Develop and deliver engaging educational programs and events with a focus on waste sustainability.
  • Collaborate with local communities, schools, and organisations to promote waste reduction and recycling.
  • Provide expert advice and support on waste management strategies and sustainability practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to maximise impact.
  • Assist with contract administration, monitor waste collection data, complete reports, and respond to ratepayer enquiries while maintaining the waste management database and ensuring service standards are met.

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated expertise in waste management and sustainability education.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in administering the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007 (WA) and other legislation/strategies relevant to the waste industry.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Experience in program development and project management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • High-level computer literacy and organisational skills including the ability to manage competing priorities.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold the following:

  • WA 'C' Class Driver's Licence
  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011), or willingness to obtain this qualification within the first 3 months of appointment.
