Diamantina Shire Council is seeking an experienced and strategic Works Manager to lead the delivery of civil infrastructure, road construction and maintenance services across the Shire.
This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient management of roads, drainage, construction and maintenance programs to deliver high-quality infrastructure services to our community.
Reporting to the Director – Infrastructure Services, the Works Manager leads Council’s Operational Team, overseeing:
Civil infrastructure projects
Road construction and rehabilitation
Rural and DTMR road maintenance
Drainage and concrete structures (culverts, footpaths, kerb and channel)
Flood damage assessments and reporting
Road Maintenance Performance Contract (RMPC) delivery
You will manage operational teams, supervisors and contractors while overseeing capital works programs, budgets and compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
Significant leadership experience in civil construction and infrastructure delivery
Extensive knowledge of rural and DTMR road construction and maintenance
Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and contractors
Strong financial and budget management capability
Sound understanding of NHVR Chain of Responsibility and load restraint requirements
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to Quality Assurance and Workplace Health & Safety
Civil Engineering qualification or substantial experience (minimum 10 years) managing road construction and maintenance projects
Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence (or higher)
Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card), pre-employment medical assessment, and National Police Check
Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering
Experience in a local government environment
MR Class Driver Licence
Plant and machinery competencies
First Aid and CPR Certificate
