Trade Assistant

 

Glenorchy City Council is seeking a motivated and reliable Trade Assistant to join our Fleet, Workshop and Stores team. This hands-on role provides practical support across mechanical services, fabrication, workshop operations and stores activities to help maintain Council's vehicles, plant, equipment and facilities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Fleet, Workshop and Stores Supervisor, you will assist with a range of operational activities including:

  • Assisting mechanics with vehicle, plant and equipment servicing and repairs.

  • Supporting welding and fabrication activities.

  • Assisting with the setup of new assets and disposal of surplus equipment.

  • Coordinating external servicing and repairs as required.

  • Delivering and distributing fuel to work crews.

  • Supporting workshop, yard and stores operations.

  • Operating a forklift and other authorised equipment.

  • Completing general maintenance tasks around the Works Centre.

  • Maintaining accurate records, timesheets and documentation.

  • Contributing to a safe and productive team environment.

This position involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and requires a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience assisting in mechanical, welding/fabrication, workshop or stores environments.

  • A strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Good communication, literacy and time-management skills.

  • The physical capability to undertake manual work in an outdoor environment.

  • A positive attitude and commitment to delivering quality outcomes.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain:

  • Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP).

  • Current Driver's Licence.

  • White Card.

  • Medium Rigid (MR) Licence or the ability to obtain one within six months of commencement.
