Walcha is located half way between Sydney and Brisbane and is a great inland alternative route to the Pacific Highway if you travel via Thunderbolts Way through Gloucester from Sydney, it is only 420km, and 523km via Tamworth and on the New England Highway.

Council at it's June 2025 Ordinary Meeting adopted the Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program and Operational Plan. These documents were out on display for 28 days and reflect community input where practicable and together they outline how Walcha Council plans to run the LGA for at least the next year.
