The Role

Council’s Strategic Communications and Engagement team are seeking to appoint a Communications and Engagement Officer to join our talented team of professionals who are at the forefront of changes impacting our local community.  

The ideal candidate will be an experienced communications and engagement practitioner with exceptional communication skills and the ability to understand community issues and Council projects, programs, and initiatives. As a Communications and Engagement Officer, you will identify opportunities for collaborative community engagement of differing levels of complexity between specific localities, the general community, and elected Councillors and lead the process of engaging with stakeholders and interested parties.

You will have quality writing and editing experience and will assist with various aspects of corporate publications including editorial and communication activities and respond to enquiries. It is an essential part of the role to understand community issues and Council projects, programs, and activities. Your exceptional written and verbal communication skills will enable you to establish working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and produce professional communications including but not limited to briefing notes, reports, and website content.

To be successful in this position:

• Tertiary qualifications in Communications or Public Relations and/or extensive experience in community and stakeholder engagement and corporate communication including the ability to create appropriate content for dissemination via media releases, social media, website and other distribution channels.; and
• Must possess and maintain a current Queensland "C" Class motor vehicle driver’s licence.
