About the Opportunity

Parkes Shire Council is looking for a Concreting and Civil Construction Labourer to join our Urban Operations team in a permanent full-time position.

Previous civil construction experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, willing to learn and takes pride in doing a good job. If you have the right attitude and a strong work ethic, Council will support you to develop your skills through on-the-job training and formal training opportunities, including the opportunity to undertake a Certificate III in Concreting.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for their first full-time job, a school leaver wanting to learn a trade, or someone looking to build a career in civil construction.

Working under the direction of the Urban Works Supervisor, you will work alongside an experienced team delivering and maintaining essential infrastructure across the Parkes Shire, including kerb and gutter, footpaths, drainage systems and roads.

You'll gain practical experience across a range of civil construction activities while contributing to projects that directly benefit our local community.

 More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with road construction and maintenance, including tar patching
• Assisting with concrete works, including kerb and gutter, footpaths, roads and drainage
• Installing and maintaining signs and roadside furniture
• Undertaking traffic control duties, including completing and maintaining required certification
• Operating and maintaining small plant and equipment
• Assisting with works survey set-out
• Undertaking maintenance of Council assets and facilities as required
• Completing tasks as directed by the Supervisor in line with operational requirements
• Working safely and following Council's safety standards, procedures and instructions
• Maintaining accurate records of work activities
• Working collaboratively with the team and contributing to a positive workplace

 This is a hands-on role where you'll be learning by doing, developing practical skills and working alongside experienced civil construction employees.

About You

We are looking for people who:

To be successful in this position you will need:

• Current and maintained Drivers Licence 
• SafeWork NSW Construction induction (White Card)
• The ability to work safely and follow instructions

Previous hands-on experience in civil construction, concreting, landscaping, maintenance or a similar environment will be highly regarded, but we are also keen to hear from applicants who are new to the industry and are looking for an opportunity to learn.

It will be highly favorable if you possess any of the following:

• Experience using hand tools or small plant and equipment
• Some experience in construction, maintenance, landscaping, agriculture or other practical work
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills
• Confidence using electronic devices
• A genuine interest in developing a career in civil construction and concreting

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. 

The role has been evaluated as being Grade 2 of the Council's salary structure with a commencing salary of $55,693.27 ($28.18 to $32.41 per hour).  The commencing salary will be determined based on the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidate.
