Play a key role supporting emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation across the Banyule community.

Are you passionate about emergency management, community safety and working with others to deliver practical outcomes? Banyule City Council is seeking a proactive and organised Emergency Management Officer to support Council’s emergency management arrangements and help ensure our community is prepared, supported and resilient when it matters most.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative Emergency Management team and contribute to meaningful work across emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery. Working closely with the Emergency Management Team Leader, you will help maintain and improve Council’s emergency management systems, plans and processes, while supporting strong relationships with internal teams, emergency services, partner councils, agencies and the community.

What you'll bring/what we are looking for

We’re looking for someone who is organised, collaborative and flexible, with a genuine interest in emergency management and community safety. You will be comfortable working with procedures, plans and reporting requirements, while also being able to build positive working relationships with a wide range of people. You’ll have:

  • A demonstrated interest in emergency management and experience in administration, governance and/or project management support.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, contribute to positive team relationships and engage respectfully with a diverse range of people.

  • Ability to contribute own expertise to achieve quality outcomes for the unit by being positive and flexible with day-to-day work changes, shifting priorities and periods of uncertainty.

  • Ability to understand and support the organisation's vision, mission and business objectives and can contribute to the development of plans, strategies and team goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to adopt a principled approach and adhere to organisational values and the Code of Conduct, operate within the boundaries of organisational processes and legal/public policy constraints and have the ability to take personal responsibility for accurate completion of work and to seek guidance when required.

Pre-employment requirements

  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence

  • Working with Children’s Check 

  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check

  • MEMO, EMLO or Psychological First Aid training (Desirable)

What we offer:

  • A permanent, full-time position with a monthly Rostered Day Off (RDO)

  • Salary $83,324.29 - $96,497.25 per annum plus super (dependent on experience)

  • 26 weeks of paid parental leave - primary carer/4 weeks of paid parental leave - partner

The role is required to provide a 24 hour afterhours service for Emergency Management response as the on-call Deputy Municipal Emergency Management Officer (MEMO), which will require participation in a shared roster on a week by week basis, including rostered overtime on weekends.
