The Role
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to join CBCity and play a key role in the environmental management, monitoring and regulatory compliance of Council’s waste recycling and landfill operations.
This technical role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Environment Protection Licences (EPL) conditions, supporting the management of closed landfill sites, and providing expert environmental advice across recycling and landfill operations, including the Kelso Waste Management Centre. You will work closely with the Coordinator Landfill Operations, project teams, regulators and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant and environmentally responsible outcomes.
This opportunity will be offered on a permanent full-time basis.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Monitor site operations and environmental management systems for compliance with EPL conditions, including routine surveillance of runoff and surface water management
- Assist in the operational management of the Kelso Recycling Yard, ensuring all recycled materials meet regulatory requirements and comply with relevant Resource Recovery Orders and Exemptions.
- Assist in the management of closed landfill operations, including coordination of site monitoring and leachate treatment plant operations
- Analyse environmental monitoring data and provide sound technical advice and recommendations
- Proactively identify, report and respond to adverse environmental conditions or hazards, and plan and implement improvement measures in consultation with the Coordinator Landfill Operations
- Support the development, implementation and review of environmental management plans, procedures and systems for the Kelso Waste Management Centre and closed landfills across the LGA
- Work collaboratively with project teams and contribute to the delivery of environmental and waste-related projects
- Arrange cost estimates, obtain quotations and manage minor project works, including processing invoices and maintaining project documentation
- Plan, coordinate, finalise and submit monthly waste contribution reports in accordance with Section 88 of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and the POEO Waste Regulations 2014

You will have
- Degree in Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
- Current Class C Driver Licence
- Demonstrated understanding and application of environmental management systems, including ISO 14001
- Proven experience in managing environmental compliance within a statutory or regulatory environment
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, analyse and derive meaningful conclusions from technical and scientific data
- Sound knowledge of surface water and sediment control techniques
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and function effectively within a regulatory framework
- Strong problem-solving skills and initiative, including the ability to proactively identify issues and implement effective solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- High-level computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Protection of the Environment Operations (Waste) Regulations, and the NSW regulatory framework for managing wastes
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $104,465 + 12% superannuation. Salary may be negotiable depending on skills and experience.
