The Opportunity

Our City Planning Department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Urban Planner to join our team as a Senior Urban Planner. Reporting to the Coordinator City Planning, you will undertake the core role of a Senior Urban Planner, with a focus on complex planning applications and coaching of other urban planners and/or student planners.

As a Senior Urban Planner, you will be an energetic and innovative individual who thrives in a team environment while also being comfortable in making courageous decisions to facilitate great planning and customer service outcomes. You will be a proactive and highly organised person with a ‘can do' attitude. You should have exceptional communication skills and be someone who genuinely enjoys building great relationships with their stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess major and other planning applications, which may include briefing relevant stakeholders or Council.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to deliver high quality customer service outcomes for the Maribyrnong Community.
  • Provide a high standard of clear, accurate, technical and general advice.
  • Facilitate quality developments and land use that meet Council's policy objectives which is outcome driven.
  • Prepare and present reports to Council or Council delegate.
  • Prepare and present submissions before VCAT.
  • Conduct high quality public consultation for planning proposals.
  • Assist with planning projects including cross Directorate teams established within the Council organisation.

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • Significant experience in a planning role (3 years minimum)
  • A thorough knowledge of the statutory planning and/or local government sector (desirable);
  • Facilitate outcome driven results and be a confident presenter.
  • Well-developed customer service ethic and passionate on building strong relationships.
