About the role

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Team Member Cleansing, Waste & Verges to join our Civil Maintenance team.

Reporting to the Coordinator Cleansing and Waste, you will undertake a range of cleansing, waste and civil maintenance activities that help keep Salisbury's streets, public spaces and infrastructure clean, safe and well maintained. The role includes waste removal, street sweeping, bin emptying, verge and footpath maintenance, and operating a range of plant and equipment to support service delivery across the city.

Working as part of a team, you will contribute to high-quality services for the community while maintaining a strong focus on safety, teamwork and customer service.

Your key responsibilities will include

  • Undertaking cleansing, waste and general civil maintenance activities.
  • Performing waste removal, bin emptying, street sweeping, footpath maintenance and verge maintenance.
  • Operating plant and equipment safely and effectively, including road sweepers, backhoes, compactors and crane trucks where appropriately licensed and trained.
  • Providing back-up support for compactor and street sweeper operations as required.
  • Driving medium rigid vehicles associated with operational duties.
  • Completing work in accordance with service standards and safe work practices.
  • Maintaining plant, equipment and tools in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Erecting temporary traffic management signage in accordance with required standards.
  • Identifying and reporting defects in Council infrastructure.
  • Liaising with contractors and supporting other operational teams when required.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work completed, materials used and equipment operated.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and safe work practices.

About you

You are a safety-focused and dependable team member who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining public spaces and infrastructure.

You bring experience in cleansing, waste, civil maintenance or a similar operational environment and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You take ownership of your work, communicate well with others and are committed to delivering quality outcomes for the community.

You will also have

  • Current MR Driver's Licence or higher.
  • Experience operating road sweepers, including McDonald Johnston and/or Rosmech sweepers.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Ability to operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Good teamwork, communication and customer service skills.
  • Competent computer skills and the ability to use operational systems and Microsoft applications.
  • Familiarity with risk and hazard management in operational environments.

Desirable

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or a related trade qualification.
  • Work Zone Traffic Management Certificate.
  • Experience operating civil maintenance plant and equipment.
  • Front End Loader, Backhoe, Skid Steer or Roller competencies.
  • Dogging High Risk Work Licence.
  • Vehicle Loading Crane Licence (above 10 metre tonne).
  • Experience with waste disposal requirements and environmental compliance
