Catchment Management Lead - Hauraki

Mō te tūranga | About the role

• Based in Councils Paeroa office.

• This role provides key local leadership and delivery for our catchment management programmes within the Waihou and Piako River catchments (Hauraki). 

• Oversee the delivery of catchment management work programmes in the Waihou and Piako catchments (Hauraki).

• Build capacity and maturity within the unit, lead staff.

• Undertake catchment management functions focusing on integrated catchment management, soil and water conservation, river improvements, catchment planning and biodiversity enhancement whilst developing and maintaining community/stakeholder partnerships. Work delivered in line with the Waihou-Piako Zone Plan.

• The Lead component of the role is expected to equate to approximately 30% of time with the remainder allocated as a Senior Catchment Management Officer (70%).

• Bring energy and a drive to deliver catchment management and restoration excellence.

• Be an experienced people leader, supporting a positive team culture in your immediate team, office and wider Hauraki and Coromandel Catchments Team.

• Use your collaboration skills to connect with iwi, key stakeholder and communities to deliver innovative catchment management treatments.

• Have attention to detail to oversee budgets, reporting and project delivery.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

• A degree qualification in natural resource management, physical or environmental sciences.

• You must have a minimum of 6 years’ experience in catchment management, soil and water improvements, biodiversity and biosecurity.

• Proven ability to build teams and connect across work functions.

• Lead a small, dedicated team of catchment managers.

• Contribute to the Hauraki and Coromandel Catchments leadership team and wider team culture.

• Connect with our wider Hauraki and Coromandel river and catchment staff, and regional catchment teams.

• Work with our flood protection and operational teams within Hauraki.
