Consents Planner

Far North District Council is seeking a dedicated and innovative Consent Planner to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our district by developing and implementing resource management plans that balance environmental, social, and economic needs.

Te Wero – The Challenge

As a Consent Planner you will oversee and execute the Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities, ensuring compliance with the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, Reserves Act, and other relevant legislation or standards related to planning and resource management. This includes managing resource consents, facilitating sustainable development, and ensuring that all activities align with legal and regulatory frameworks to promote the well-being of the community and the environment.

I ā koe - About You

We’re seeking a candidate with:

• A tertiary qualification in Resource Management Planning or a related field or at least studying towards such a qualification.

• Some planning experience either in Local Government or other relevant organisations engaged in planning or resource management and preferably with membership or eligibility to the New Zealand Planning Institute.

• The ability to accurately gauge when it is necessary to seek advice or support from more senior planners to ensure the overall success of the resource consent division.

• Excellent written and oral communication abilities

• Strong risk management skills

• Conflict resolution capabilities

• Open-mindedness and persuasiveness

• A valid & current driver’s license

• A commitment to achieving the best outcomes for our community

• A progressive mindset focused on continual improvement

• The ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships

• The salary for this position is Grade 14 within Council's salary structure (Band: $76,021 to $89,436 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
