Far North District Council is looking for a dedicated and versatile Customer Service Officer to join our team in Kaitaia for a fixed term from the 19 January 2026 until 18 December 2026. In this role, you’ll be the friendly face that our residents rely on, providing exceptional service across a variety of channels in a front-facing environment. Te Wero – The Challenge

As a Customer Service Officer – Multiskilled you’ll:

  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service: Deliver an outstanding customer service experience to all our customers, ensuring their needs are met with efficiency and care.

  • Be the First Point of Contact: Serve as the primary point of contact at our services counter, providing seamless and welcoming interactions for all inquiries.

  • Provide Administrative Support: Perform general administrative duties related to the Customer Services Department and the Community & Engagement Group, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication.

  • Be involved in Community Engagement: Assist in various community engagement activities, fostering strong relationships and promoting council initiatives.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Customer service experience and/or qualifications.

  • Experience in providing varied services from a local authority perspective.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for developing positive relationships.

  • High computer literacy.

  • Administrative skills and experience.

  • A clean driver’s license.

  • Knowledge of the local area.

  • Ability to connect with diverse communities.

  • Proven cash and EFTPOS handling experience.

  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to excellent customer service.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to relate to a wide range of people.                                                                              

  • Advanced documentation, report, and workflow writing skills.

  • High-level relationship management and customer facilitation skills.

  • A commitment to achieving the best outcomes for the community.
