The Position

As the Economic Development Lead, you’ll work with the Principal Economic Development and internal teams to champion industry growth, workforce readiness, innovation, and investment attraction. Your work will help shape the Cassowary Coast into an even more vibrant, sustainable, and competitive place to live, enjoy, work and do business.

In this role, you will deliver and monitor key economic development strategies—including the Economic Development Strategy, Destination Management Plan, Visitor Information Services Strategy and Events Strategy—to grow the visitor economy and attract investment.

You will help strengthen the Cassowary Coast’s reputation as a great place to invest, live, enjoy and do business, while building strong partnerships with businesses, developers, investors, government and community stakeholders to unlock new opportunities across the region. You’ll provide clear, data-driven insights to guide investment decisions, advocacy and economic development priorities, and facilitate both private and public investment in priority industries such as tourism infrastructure, accommodation, agritourism and business precincts.

About You

You’ve got relevant tertiary qualifications and experience delivering strategic projects that make a real impact in economic or visitor-economy growth. You’re great at building relationships across industry, government and the community, and you communicate confidently with everyone from Councillors to external stakeholders. You’ll also need a current Queensland C-class driver’s licence.

It’s a bonus if you understand the regional context of Northern Australia, have experience attracting investment or working on public–private partnerships, and are familiar with grant programs that support tourism and regional infrastructure.
