About the role | Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga

We’re have an opportunity for a practical and reliable person to join our Palmy Venues + Events team as an Events Venue Officer based at Arena.

If you enjoy physical work, working independently, and being part of the action behind the scenes at some of the city’s most exciting events, this role offers variety, purpose, and plenty of interaction.

You’ll help deliver seamless venue experiences across iconic spaces like Arena, Palmy Conference + Function Centre, and Caccia Birch, while also supporting citywide events that bring our community together.

As an Events Venue Officer, you’ll be responsible for setting up and supporting events across Council-managed venues and public spaces. This includes preparing equipment, moving furniture, liaising with clients, and ensuring the space is presented to a high standard.

This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week and role is part of a rotating roster which includes evening, weekend, and public holiday work, depending on event requirements. Flexibility for occasional work outside standard hours is essential.

Your focus in this role will include:

  • Setting up and dismantling venue spaces for a variety of events.
  • Providing on-site support to event organisers, promoters, and members of the public.
  • Securing venues after hours and following energy and safety protocols.
  • Assisting with logistics, signage, and equipment for city events and activations.
  • Responding to last-minute event requirements or adjustments with a can-do attitude.

About you | Ngā kōrero mōu

You are dependable, physically fit, and enjoy supporting others to succeed especially in a fast-moving, people-focused environment. This is a hands-on role involving regular lifting, carrying, and physical activity. A reasonable level of physical fitness is essential.

What you will bring:

  • A full NZ driver’s licence (required) and ideally a forklift licence.
  • Previous experience in event operations, sports facilities, or venue setup.
  • Confidence using light equipment such as floor scrubbers or utility vehicles.
  • Great interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and unsupervised.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and commitment to delivering great customer experiences.
  • Sound time management and the ability to manage multiple event setups in a day.
  • Flexibility to work across days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
