LTP Project Manager (18-Month Fixed Term)

Mō te tūranga | About the role 

Waikato Regional Council is seeking an experienced project manager to lead the end-to-end development and delivery of the council’s key strategic planning document, the long term plan (LTP). This is a full-time, 18-month fixed term role. 

In this role you will:

• Translate strategy into action, supporting Council in shaping its work programmes and priorities.

• Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and co-ordinate cross-functional teams.

• Co-ordinate, document and communicate complex information to support decision making.

• Play a key role in engagement and consultation processes.

• Support risk management, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

• Able to work collaboratively with other specialists across the organisation on the achievement of shared objectives.

• Thrive on working with sometimes abstract concepts, and be able to translate these into tangible actions and outcomes. You’ll be able to change your planned approach based on feedback and the needs of both the executive team and elected members.

• Has an open communication style, with the ability to quickly build effective relationships with peers across the organisation, keeping your finger on the challenges and opportunities as they arise is vital to your success in this role.

• The work we do can at times be fast-paced and deadline-driven. You’ll be energised by this, understanding the importance of achieving goals and objectives that contribute to broader organisation outcomes.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

• Relevant tertiary degree in strategic policy, public policy, planning, or a related field

• Excellent project management skills, with successful delivery of multi-disciplinary projects within agreed budget and timeframes.

• Minimum five years of experience in corporate planning or relevant local government field.

• Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders

• Strategic and tactical thinking.
