Maori Cultural Capability - Senior Advisor

Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council is seeking an experienced Māori Cultural Capability - Senior Advisor for a three-month fixed-term role within our Organisational Development (OD) team.

The purpose of the role is to lead a robust organisation-wide Māori cultural awareness and capability needs analysis that will inform future investment, programme design and the longer-term needs for this role within Toi Moana.

By developing kaimahi awareness and capability, we will be better enabled to partner and engage with Tangata Whenua with the utmost cultural integrity. 

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role

During this 3-month fixed term role, you will:

• Engage with Toi Moana leaders, teams and kaimahi through kōrero, interviews, focus groups and analysis of existing data
• Identify strengths, gaps and priority areas for Māori cultural capability across the organisation
• Apply a Te Ao Māori lens to existing capability frameworks and people processes
• Assess the value of diagnostic tools for Māori cultural capability
• Provide clear insights and recommendations to inform next steps
• Māori cultural advice and support for the People and Leadership group (OD, People and Capability and Governance)

This short-term project-based role does not involve wider organisational support, delivering learning programmes, or working with external partners or stakeholders.

Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience

• Significant experience in Māori cultural capability, education or development mahi
• Strong grounding in Te Ao Māori, tikanga and te Reo Māori
• Experience in organisational needs analysis or evidence-based advisory work
• Confidence engaging with senior leaders and working across a complex organisation
• Ability to work independently and deliver at pace over a short timeframe
