Research Analyst

 The Office of the Mayor at Far North District Council is seeking a Research Analyst to provide trusted, sound, and evidence-based advice to the Mayor and Elected Members. Your work will underpin informed decision-making, strengthen public engagement, and support initiatives that reflect the priorities of the Mayor and the needs of our diverse Far North communities.

 Te Wero – The Challenge

In this pivotal role, you will:

• Lead policy and strategic research on local, regional, and national issues that matter to the Far North.

• Monitor legislative developments and advise on their implications for our district.

• Prepare high-quality briefing papers, reports, and submissions that influence outcomes at every level.

• Collect and interpret data to inform mayoral priorities and performance measures.

• Engage with iwi, community groups, and government agencies to bring diverse perspectives into governance.

• Support strategic planning, including the Long-Term Plan and other key Council strategies.

• Drive innovative solutions and lead projects that advance the Mayors’ vision for the Far North.

 I ā koe - About You

You’ll bring:

• A relevant tertiary qualification and/or substantial experience in policy, strategy, planning, or related fields.

• Strong political acumen and understanding of local government frameworks.

• Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills, with exceptional report writing ability.

• Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.

• Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori, and a commitment to cultural competency (fluency or interest in te reo Māori is highly valued).

• Project and programme management experience.

• A current driver’s licence.

• The salary for this position is Grade 17 within Council's salary structure (Band: $94,208 to $110,833 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
