Scientist Contaminated Land

Mō te tūranga | About the role

• Provide technical knowledge and advice on contaminated land investigations and science, research and reporting.

• Build and maintain relationships with a large variety of key stakeholders such as the public, landowners, local and central government agencies.

• Respond to enquiries from landowners and the public.

• Communicate technical concepts and risk perspectives to a wide range of audiences.

• Make improvements to the Land Use Information (HAIL) Register and best practice.

• Give strategic advice to guide and assist review of Waikato Regional Council policy, and measure policy effectiveness.

Mō te tangata | About you

• Demonstrated ability to translate technical work for non-technical audiences.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• High standards and rigour including careful record-keeping, writing reports and correspondence.

• Effective organisational skills; time management, prioritisation, and forward planning skills.

• Have a sound understanding of current legislative requirements and policy related to contaminated land.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

• A postgraduate degree in natural, physical, or environmental sciences.

• 3-5 years’ experience in soil or land science, or a related field would be an advantage.

• Proven data handling and project management skills with proven delivery against budgets and timelines.

• Previous experience in local government and with the Ministry for the Environment’s Contaminated Land Management Guidelines would be an advantage but not essential.
