Waters Intermediate Project Manager

In this role, you will oversee and manage a variety of water-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Te Wero – The Challenge

We are seeking a dedicated Project Manager to oversee Water and Wastewater capital projects. The successful candidate will ensure these projects meet the time, cost, and quality objectives outlined in our Asset Management Plans and 10-Year Long Term Plans, adhering to current best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage Water and Wastewater projects to align with strategic objectives.

• Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

• Embed Council values by responding promptly and courteously to customer inquiries.

• Represent the Council at public and other meetings, presenting proposals and responses.

• Deliver exceptional customer service to both external and internal stakeholders.

I ā koe - About You

We are seeking a candidate with:

• Professional engineering/project management qualifications or equivalent experience (5+ years in water/wastewater sector)

• 5+ years in environmental and project management

• Familiarity with Prince2, PMBOK, and 'better business case' approach

• Health & Safety in construction knowledge

• Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of assigned assets

• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

• Knowledge of NZ local government legislation, Public Works Act, Resource Management Act, and Tikanga Māori

• Experience in water supply, treatment, and wastewater systems

• Local government experience (preferred)

• Current driver's license

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills

• Customer service excellence

• Ability to relate to diverse groups and make informed decisions

• Cultural awareness

• Strong documentation and workflow process skills

• Team-oriented mindset

However, the Council is in the process of transitioning water services to a new Council Controlled Organisation (CCO). As a result, employment with Far North District Council in these roles is not guaranteed beyond the establishment of the waters CCO. • The salary for this position is Grade 17 within Council's salary structure (Band: $94,208 to $110,833 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
