Leading Hand - Civil Maintenance

The Details:

Join our Council team and play a key role in keeping our community’s roads and civil infrastructure safe, functional and well‑maintained.

As a Crew Leader, you’ll lead and work alongside a small team (primarily a labourer) to complete a range of maintenance tasks across Council’s civil infrastructure assets.

Your day to day tasks will include: 

• clearing debris
• fixing and replacing signs
• repairing road defects
• undertaking pathway, kerb, channel and traffic island repairs 
• maintaining after other infrastructure and areas as required

As the crew leader, you'll also be responsible for: 

• organising resources, equipment and materials for each job
• identifying defects and developing practical solutions
• using software and technology to manage work orders and basic admintrative tasks

Your hands‑on approach, problem‑solving ability and leadership skills will be essential in ensuring our community’s infrastructure remains safe and reliable.

About you

We're looking for you to bring:

• Recent hands on experience in civil construction or infrastructure maintenance
• Some experience leading a team
• Strong communication skills to work with colleagues and the community
• Ability to safely perform manual tasks
• Confidence using technology and handling basic admin

You’ll also need:

• A current truck licence (MR or higher)
• A Construction Induction card (or be willing to obtain one before starting)
• A Traffic Management Implementation licence and a High Risk Work Dogging (HRW DG) licence (or be willing to get these within 6 months)

It’s highly desirable to hold a Certificate III in Civil Construction or a similar qualification. This qualification is required if you want to progress further in the Crew Leader Framework.
