Maori Heritage & Research Specialist

Located on the second floor of Te Aka Mauri, the Heritage and Research Team offers specialist support to researchers. This includes: 

• Offering whakapapa and genealogy assistance.

• Helping customers to research Te Arawa, Rotorua, Māori and New Zealand history.

• Supporting customers to access to our Heritage Collections.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who has a passion for sharing knowledge and enabling our community to connect with local stories. They will be a team player with outstanding customer-service skills. 

The role requires a strong knowledge of Māori research resources. Collections management, library duties and events support are also an integral part of the role. The normal hours of work are 8.00am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday, but will include Saturdays as rostered. 

Experience sharing information in a range of formats, knowledge of Tikanga Māori, and an understanding of Te Ao Māori and Kaupapa Māori frameworks, are essential. A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, is preferred. Previous library, archives or research experience, and an understanding of Te Reo Māori, would be an advantage.
