Your main role as the Trade Waste Officer is to administer the Trade Waste Policy which includes ensuring that all industrial and commercial businesses across the Southern Downs Region have agreements in place to discharge trade wastes, where you will conduct regular audits to confirm compliance in accordance with their agreements. Additionally, you will also assist the control of commercial and industrial loads on SDRC's Sewerage System and wastewater treatment facilities by inspecting, regulating and controlling the output of trade waste to the sewer.
Term: Permanent, Full-time
Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight
Pay Level: $3,245.40 to $3,454.36 per fortnight (Level 4), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

About the Department
The Water and Wastewater Department works within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate and delivers on the water and wastewater obligations of Council, whilst providing a high level of customer service to the community. Council’s Water Team delivers the essential services of water and wastewater (sewerage) to the Southern Downs community. Water services starts at the source including the treatment and pumping of water, maintaining the network and providing water metering services. Wastewater services start with the property connection and includes maintaining the sewer network, managing pump stations and delivering wastewater treatment services at facilities across the region.

- Carry out audits and random audits;
- Engage with trade waste customers, business owners, trades, and other stakeholders to achieve trade waste compliance;
- Work within procedures and guidelines to perform investigations to locate sources of pollution and non-compliant discharges of trade waste to the sewerage network;
- Perform day-to-day duties related to inspection, registration, monitoring, sampling, and control of trade waste generators; and
- Support trade waste charging processes, including meter reading, data entry and calculation of charges for major industries.
What You Will Need
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- The legal right to live and work in Australia
- MANDATORY POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Immunisation record indicating Hepatitis A&B vaccinations or immunity; or the ability to be vaccinated in accordance with Council's Immunisation Procedures; and
- Preparedness to work flexible hours outside the scope of normal business hours (early mornings, evenings and/or Saturday).
- REQUIRED LICENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualification of at least degree level in a relevant field. Alternatively, significant experience and demonstration of skills to be able to complete the duties of the role;
- A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role;
- A White Construction Card, or the ability to obtain one, is a mandatory requirement for this role; and
- A person in this position will need to hold a current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain one.
- Demonstrated ability to apply high-level waste knowledge
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to provide accurate, timely advice in a helpful and supportive manner
- Well-developed analytical, research and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prepare routine reports and documentation
- To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
